Mary Antoinette Bellegante Cornella was born on July 8, 1919 in Trinidad, Colorado, to Pete and Rose Bellegante. She went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2015. Mary was united in marriage to Robert Cornella on July 26, 1941, in Florence, Colorado. She was a full time housewife and mother to eight children. She also worked on her family’s 11 acres of farmland until the passing of her husband. She then went to work for GMA Services as a secretary and later as an administrative assistant for Rodgers and Associates.
Mary is survived by her eight children, Roberta DiMarino, Margaret Dreher, Robert (Beth Catalano) Cornella, Dean (Betty Sue Hartless) Cornella, Angie (Ed) Rodgers, Gary (Lorrie Martin) Cornella, Mike (Carrie Carestia) Cornella, Dave (Nan Kerr) Cornella; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, the youngest of whom shared her birthday; and her grand dog, Buddy. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; brothers, Harry and Frances Bellegante; and sister, Erma Andreatta.
Mary was very involved in her grandchildren’s lives, going to soccer, baseball, basketball, and volleyball games, tennis and wrestling matches, and concerts. Mary’s children and grandchildren were the loves of her life. She was so very proud of them all. Mary was a member of St. Michael Catholic Parish, Daughters of Isabella, and was a member of the VFW 4061 Ladies’ Auxiliary. She will be missed by many.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2015 at St. Michael Catholic Church with Msgr. James King as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson Funeral Home.
